Officers are appealing for witnesses to a collision in the Worsbrough area
of Barnsley, in which a 26-year-old man died.
The collision occurred at around 8.10pm last night (Wednesday 4 July), when
a silver Gilera scooter travelling along Vernon Road towards Ward Green,
left the carriageway for reasons unknown and collided with a wall close to
the junction with High Ridge.
The man riding the bike, aged 26, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
His family have been informed and are being supported by officers.
There were a number of cars in the area at the time of the collision and
police are keen to speak to anyone who saw what happened, or who saw the
manner of driving prior to the collision.

He is due to appear in court in Edinburgh later today. Sky News are reporting that proceedings are now live under the Contempt of Court Act. Police did not say what Salmond, who served as first minister from 2007 to 2014, is charged with. Two people have made harassment complaints against the SNP grandee but he denies them and took successful legal action against the Scottish government over their investigation. Earlier this month a court said the government’s decisions were “procedurally unfair and… tainted with apparent bias”. At the time Salmond said he is “not guilty of any criminality whatsoever.” The party leader resigned following the loss of the Scottish independence referendum but represented Gordon in the House of Commons from 2015 to 2017.
