A Sheffield driver who caused the death of an 88-year-old woman
following a collision on Saturday 8 July 2017 has been sentenced to
seven years in prison.

Anser Rasib,42, of Stone Delf, Sheffield was yesterday (Tuesday 5 March)
sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court, after pleading guilty to causing
Death by Dangerous Driving and Causing Serious Injury by Dangerous
Driving.

An investigation was launched into a fatal collision close to the
Parkway Markets in Sheffield in July 2017. It was reported that a grey
Skoda Fabia estate was driving out of the city when it was involved in a
collision with a silver Honda Jazz.

Rasib – who was exceeding the 50mph speed limit – lost control of his
car and crossed over to the opposite side of the road.

Emergency services were called and sadly, an 88-year-old-woman was
pronounced dead at the scene. Two women, aged 71 and 74, who were also
passengers in the Honda, were taken to hospital with serious injuries.
The driver of the Honda, a 73-year-old man, was also taken to hospital
with serious injuries.

Rasib also received a five year disqualification from driving, which
will start when he is released from prison and he will be required to
undertake an extended driving test.

Investigating Officer PC Richard Thorley said: “I would like to thank
the public for their help with this investigation and hope that the
sentencing of Rasib will bring some closure to the families of the
victims.

“This is a sad case and I am pleased that Rasib admitted his guilt and
accepted that he was driving too fast.

“This also sends a clear message to others that speeding has life
changing implications, not only for you as a driver but for victims,
families and friends.”
