Kiveton residents will see improvements to a major route through the village as Rotherham Council’s 2020 Roads Programme begins repair and resurfacing works in the area.
Motorists are being warned they may experience potential disruption from Monday (7 August) when resurfacing works begins on the B6059 Station Road/Wales Road and temporary traffic lights will be in operation.
The following week (w/c 14 August) work will begin on and adjacent to the rail bridge, meaning that the road will be closed to traffic at the bridge, until Friday 1 September.
During this time there will be a diversion in place as follows: Wales Road B6059 (west) – A618 (north) – A57 (east) – Kiveton Lane – B6059 Station Road and vice versa.
Pedestrian access across the bridge and to the station, as well as access to side streets, will be maintained at all times.
Colin Knight, Rotherham Council’s Head of Service, Highways, said: “We apologise for any disruption experienced by local residents and businesses, however this work is essential to improve the roads in the area, and we hope people will appreciate the benefits once the work is completed.
“We aim to keep residents and businesses informed and if anyone has any questions, staff on site will be happy to talk through any concerns,” he added.
From April 2017, the Council is investing an additional £10 million in improving roads across the borough, as part of the 2020 Roads Programme. Works will be aimed at resurfacing many of Rotherham’s estate roads, complementing the wider package of road maintenance. Local councillors have been asked to nominate streets in their local communities to benefit from this extra funding.
