Police in Rotherham are appealing for information following a series of
bogus official calls which have taken place over the last two days.
A man who claims to work for the fraud squad at New Scotland Yard has called
the victims and led them to believe that he is carrying out an investigation
into their bank.
In each case, this has resulted in bank details being given over the phone
or the cash being collected.
Acting Det Sgt Laura Procter said: “We’re appealing for anyone who believes
they may have been targeted to come forward so we can build a clear picture
of the offending and bring those responsible to justice. This can have a
detrimental effect on the victims who are often elderly and feel embarrassed
to speak out. We know that fraudsters often share information so if you are
aware of an elderly relative who is receiving lots of unsolicited calls or
post, please do speak to them about this to ensure they receive the support
they need.”
Anyone with information or who believes they may have been affected is asked
to call 101 quoting incident 586 of 24/08/18.

- wathupondearne Latest news in Yorkshire: January 24, 2019 11:28:24 AM Scotland’s former First Minister Alex Salmond has been arrested by police and charged, with a report sent to the procurator fiscal. He is due to appear in court in Edinburgh later today. Sky News are reporting that proceedings are now live under the Contempt of Court Act. Police did not say what Salmond, who served as first minister from 2007 to 2014, is charged with. Two people have made harassment complaints against the SNP grandee but he denies them and took successful legal action against the Scottish government over their investigation. Earlier this month a court said the government’s decisions were “procedurally unfair and… tainted with apparent bias”. At the time Salmond said he is “not guilty of any criminality whatsoever.” The party leader resigned following the loss of the Scottish independence referendum but represented Gordon in the House of Commons from 2015 to 2017.
