There’s been a dramatic rise in the number of child abuse image cases across
Yorkshire, according to the NSPCC.

New figures from the child protection charity show abuse offences reported
in North Yorkshire have more than doubled in the past two years, from 286 to
more than 600.

In South Yorkshire the numbers have risen from 666 to 772, in West Yorkshire
they’ve gone up from 976 to 1,320 and the Humber region has seen figures
increase from 375 to 390.

Peter Wanless, NSPCC chief executive said: “Grooming is happening to very
young children, it is happening so frequently that it’s becoming normalised.

“Social networks have become a gateway for child abuse,” he added.
