Children, parents and childminders celebrated the official opening of a refurbished play area at Wath.
Accompanied by Councillor Alan Atkin, Councillor Jayne Elliot, Councillor Simon Evans and Andy Lee Urban Green Space Manager, three children – Jorden Kirkham (16), Niamh Wright (7) and Riley Kirkham (6) cut the ribbon to launch the revamped activity zone at Biscay Way, Wath.
The refurbishment of the play area has been funded through £45,000 obtained from Taylor Wimpey as part of the planning consent agreement to develop housing nearby.
The redevelopment included opening up sight lines to make the playground feel safer to use.
Most of the equipment has been replaced and new safety surfaces have been fitted.
Wath Ward Councillor Alan Atkin, who will be the Master of Ceremonies at the event, said: “A lot of hard work has gone into this project and it is great to see it come to fruition. The refurbished play area is very much welcomed by local residents in this self-contained local community – benefitting youngsters in the Wath area.”
Rotherham Council’s Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods and Cultural Services, Councillor Taiba Yasseen, said: “The refurbishment of this play area has been championed by the Friends of Wath Parks and has been well received by local children, who will now be able to play in a much needed facility.”
