Two men who are thought to have been held as modern slaves at two
Barnsley hand car washes have been rescued during raids carried out in
the town.
The two Romanian victims said their ID cards and mobile phones had been
withheld and they had suffered burns through not having protective
equipment when cleaning.
A 24-year-old Romanian man has been arrested following the raids which
were carried out on Thursday 4 October.
The operation was carried out by the Gangmasters and Labour Abuse
Authority and supported by South Yorkshire Police, HMRC and Barnsley
Council.
