Barnsley College has given its backing to creating musical opportunities for
the town’s young people by sponsoring Barnsley Youth Choir.
The College’s sponsorship will allow around 400 children to continue their
involvement with the choir and enable others to access the opportunities
available.
The choir has developed an outstanding international reputation and is now
ranked fourth in the world. Children from the age of four are involved in
high-quality musical experiences and are international ambassadors for
Barnsley.
The choir is a registered charity and relies on the support of local
organisations, businesses and people to remain viable as, although the costs
of being involved are very low, a significant number of young people
struggle to meet them.
Mat Wright, Artistic Director of Barnsley Youth Choir, said: “We are
relishing an opportunity to work in partnership with Barnsley College, which
is an outstanding organisation with an excellent reputation. This support
will enable us to ensure that all young people have the opportunity to be
involved with Barnsley Youth Choir, no matter what their financial
circumstances are.
“The two organisations share similar values and are passionate about
providing the very best for young people in our borough. This financial
support will have a significant impact on some of our most vulnerable
members and we hope that this marks the beginning of a longer term
relationship. We would publicly like to thank the College for this wonderful
support.”
Chris Webb, Chief Executive and Principal of Barnsley College, added:
“Barnsley Youth Choir is a superb organisation which facilitates the musical
development of our town’s young people whilst giving them valuable life
experiences. We are proud to support the choir and look forward to seeing
its success continue.”
