Householders can now sign up to Rotherhams new garden waste collection
service and get a new brown bin for their garden waste.
Any residents who wish to have their garden waste collected after the end of
October will need to pay for the new service. Households can sign up now on
the Council’s website.
From 29 October 2018, Rotherham Council will stop collecting blue bags from
the kerbside and residents should start to use their green bin for paper and
cardboard recycling.
The new garden waste collection service costs £39 which includes collections
through autumn and winter. Any household that signs up before 15 October
will receive 15 months collections for the price of 12, covering 29 October
2018 until 31 January 2020 around £2 per collection over the 15 month
period.
The price covers the emptying of the brown bin every fortnight from April to
October and a monthly collection from November to March, with a four-week
break over the Christmas and New Year period.
From February 2019, Rotherham Council will be collecting plastic for
recycling. Until then residents can recycle plastics at any of our Household
Waste Recycling Centres.
Rotherham Councils Cabinet Member for Waste, Roads and Community Safety
Cllr Emma Hoddinott said: The council is making these changes to increase
the amount of waste that is recycled, whilst also bringing down the cost of
running the service at a time when the councils budget is being reduced.
We listened to residents who said they wanted a garden waste collection
service for additional months in the year, for us to remove the boxes and
bags and to introduce plastic recycling at home. These changes will mean
every household will have more space to recycle, more overall space in their
bins than they currently have, and recycling will be made easier.
Residents will receive further information on the changes through the post
in September. In the meantime, residents can find out more:
