Rotherham Council has successfully prosecuted three more cases of
fraudulent use of disabled persons’ blue badges.
The cases were heard in Sheffield Magistrates Court on Tuesday 16th
October.
Shakila Begum, 47, of Spinneyfield, Rotherham, used her deceased father
in law’s disabled parking badge to park in a designated disabled bay on
Drummond Street Service Road in May 2018.
Begum failed to appear in court and was found guilty in her absence. She
was fined £440 with £300 costs and £44 victim surcharge.
Sarah Olley, 32, of West Avenue, Rawmarsh, used her son’s blue badge to
park her vehicle in a designated disabled bay in Drummond Street car
park in June 2018. Her son was in school at the time the badge was used.
Olley failed to appear in court and was found guilty in her absence. She
was fined £440 with £300 costs and £44 victim surcharge.
Azara Wahid, 50, of Fitzwalter Road, Sheffield, used her husband’s blue
badge to park her vehicle in a designated disabled bay in Drummond
Street car park in July 2018. Her husband was not present when the badge
was in use.
Wahid pleaded guilty by post and was fined £80 with £300 costs and £30
victim surcharge.
Councillor Denise Lelliott, the Council’s Cabinet Member for Jobs and
the Local Economy said “These are even more examples of this extremely
anti-social crime. All these cases involved the use of designated
disabled parking, preventing genuine people from using the bays.
“The Council will not tolerate such activities. Eleven people have been
prosecuted so far this year and we will take legal action whenever it is
in the public interest to do so.
