Man named in Sheffield murder inquiry

A 26-year-old man who died following a fight in Sheffield city centre
earlier this week has been named as Xiangyu Li.

Emergency services were called to the junction of Union Street and
Charles Street at around 3.30am on Tuesday (24 March) after Mr Li was
found unconscious.

Officers and paramedics attempted resuscitation, but he sadly died at
the scene. A post mortem found he died from a head injury.

Mr Li’s family is being supported by officers at what is an extremely
distressing time.

Mr Li is originally from China, but was living in Kent prior to his
death.

A 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder in Frankfurt,
Germany on Wednesday (25 March) under a European arrest warrant.

The man, a Chinese national who was residing in Sheffield, remains in
custody in Germany at this time and once returned to the UK will be
processed in line with usual procedures.
