Rotherham smokers wishing to quit this No Smoking Day on Wednesday the
13th of March, can do so with the help of a free, local service.

This year’s theme for No Smoking Day is ‘today is the day’ and is
encouraging potential quitters to make the 13th of March the day they
either decide they want to quit or they actually stop smoking – and the
campaign also encourages smokers to think about their own reason or
reasons for stopping smoking.

Smokers in Rotherham can further increase their chances of quitting by
accessing Get Healthy Rotherham’s free stop smoking service. The
programme offers expert advice and support including free stop smoking
medicines for people aged over 18 who live in Rotherham. Sessions are
held in a range of venues across Rotherham, and telephone support is
also available.

On No Smoking Day itself Get Healthy Rotherham will be at the main
entrance in Rotherham Hospital from 10am – 2pm and staff will be on hand
to explain more about the stop smoking programme, carry out free carbon
monoxide (CO) readings and refer people to the service if they wish.

Get Healthy Rotherham Service Manager Jacqui Reddick said: “No Smoking
Day is a brilliant opportunity for smokers to take that first step and
make the decision to stop smoking. Evidence shows that people are four
times more likely to successfully quit with the help of expert advice
and stop smoking medications, both of which are available through our
stop smoking programme. We encourage anyone in Rotherham thinking about
quitting to either pop down to the event at Rotherham Hospital on 13th
March or contact the service directly to get the right support they
need.”

Cllr David Roche, Cabinet Member for Public Health and Adult Care at
Rotherham Council, and Chair of the Rotherham Tobacco Alliance, added:
“In recent years the number of smokers in Rotherham has steadily
decreased which is really good news for the borough and testimony to the
fantastic range of support on offer to residents. No Smoking Day is a
great opportunity to help decrease this number even further and quitters
can benefit from the free local support available through Get Healthy
Rotherham’s dedicated smoking cessation programme.”
