Free screening for vulnerability to heart attacks will be offered at a
supermarket.
The Rotherham, Doncaster and South Humber Foundation Trust (RDaSH) health
bus will visit Tesco Extra in Wath on Thursday, September 27.
Inside, staff will perform scans for signs of abdominal aortic aneurysm
(AAA) – expansion and weakening of the aorta.
The condition shows no symptoms but, if it bursts, can cause death from
internal bleeding.
Men turning 65 are invited by post to attend a screening clinic like the one
happening on the bus, which will stop in the supermarket car park.
Members of the screening team will be on hand all day, talking about the
condition and scanning men who booked appointments.
Men aged over 65 who have not been screened can book by calling 01709 649100
or by emailing dbh-tr.dbhaaa@nhs.net.
Babatunde Fakolade, screening co-ordinator said: “I would like to say a
massive thank you to Tesco for bringing AAA Screening to the Wath branch.
“We know how busy people are, and making time for your health can be
difficult, but by working with the supermarket we can offer screening at a
time that is convenient and easy to access.
“If you are, or a member of your family is male over the age of 65, please
don’t hesitate to give us a ring and we will make you an appointment to be
screened.
“The screening itself consists of a five minute ultrasound scan of the
abdomen, with results provided there and then, so, why not take up the
opportunity to be screened in between carrying out your weekly shop.”
