An innovative new exhibition celebrating Cannon Hall’s picturesque parkland will be on show at the Georgian country house this autumn.
‘Park Life, on display from Saturday, 10 September until Sunday, 18 December, examines the Hall’s connection with its landscape, wildlife, unique character and the love affair many people have with it.
The park and its canine visitors take centre stage in the exhibition. Artists James Brunt and Lena Sass have created an intriguing look from the perspective of our four legged friends. Created over the summer the artists collected materials, images and data, to bring the beauty of the Hall’s Parkland into its historic rooms. Visitors will enter the indoor park and experience ‘Dog Cam’, a view of Cannon Hall never seen before. The exhibition combines film, photography and materials collected on site to capture a snap shot of the park and the daily routine of the dog walk.
This unique exhibition celebrates the importance of green spaces, in providing people with invaluable and treasured leisure time and the role parks play in the happiness and wellbeing of its visitors. It has been inspired by the HLF/ Big Lottery Fund, Parks for People project which aims to restore the Richard Wood’s Georgian landscape and enhance the parkland for future visitors.
Cllr Roy Miller, Cabinet Spokesperson for Place, said: “It is wonderful to have such beautiful parklands right here in Barnsley. Hundreds of people visit every day and spend quality time in relaxing and picturesque surroundings. The exhibition really celebrates its loveliness and it will be interesting to see if from the perspective of our canine friends, who regularly explore the grounds. It is also the ideal opportunity to find out more about the Parks for People project, which will hugely enhance the Hall’s park and gardens.”
