There will be another chance to have fun and learn something new this
October as Rotherham Libraries and Neighbourhood Hubs will be hosting two
“Fun Palace” events.
Fun Palaces is an ongoing national campaign for culture at the heart of
every community which culminates in an annual weekend of action – arts,
science, craft and tech events run by and for local communities.
With the motto “Everyone an artist and everyone a scientist” the aim is to
encourage local people to join in and learn something new – whether it’s
knitting or coding!
Rotherham’s first Fun Palace was held at Riverside House last year, and the
event was so successful that this year Wath Library and Neighbourhood Hub
will also be hosting an event on Saturday 6 October.
Members of the public can come along any time between 10am-3pm at Riverside
and 10am-1pm at Wath. Activities will include:
Riverside: Fun Fun Korean (learning to write in Korean); How to make a chess
set and board; The Knot Man – learn to tie a variety of knots; Knit and
Natter; Code Club – plus many more.
Wath: Local History Group; Family History; Craft events for children; Learn
Makaton; Knitting Group; Lego Club and Code Club.
Rotherham Council’s Cabinet Member for Cleaner, Greener Communities, Cllr
Sarah Allen, said: “Last year’s Fun Palace at Riverside Library proved
extremely popular so it’s great to see it expanding out to Wath as well for
2018.
“If you weren’t able to come along to last year’s event, we’d love as many
people as possible to call in to Riverside or Wath, see what’s on offer and
have a go at something new!”
Members of the public can drop in at any time throughout the event to join
in the workshops; there is no need to book. There are activities for both
adults and children.
