Barnsley Council will host the Best Bar None and Healthy Workplace Awards
night on Wednesday 19 September to celebrate the work done by Barnsley
businesses who provide fantastic examples of innovation, ambition and
leadership.
Best Bar None is a voluntary accreditation scheme, supported by the Home
Office, which recognises excellence in Barnsleys nightlife and accredited
venues show that they are serious about safety and service.
The process of becoming a Best Bar None accredited venue is not an easy one
as each venue must meet over 80 standards, providing evidence to show they
match up to each one.
The Best Bar None accredited town centre pubs, and clubs are Che Bar,
Wildcats, Joseph Bramah, Zinc, Annie Murrays, Digital, Silkstone Inn, 00
Bar, The Open Kitchen, Parkers Café Brasserie, Corner Pin, Shakespeare and
Arcade Ale House.
Alongside the accreditation, there will be four awards given out for Best
Bar, Best Late Night Venue, the Peoples Choice Award following a public
vote and an Overall Winner.
The 2019 Barnsley Best Bar None Scheme will also be launched on the evening,
and all town centre licensed venues are invited to take part.
Meanwhile, the Healthy Workplace awards have been introduced, for the first
time this year to recognise and celebrate the good work taking place in
businesses across Barnsley to improve health and well-being in the
workplace.
It’s great that employers are recognising the business benefits of investing
in the health and well-being of their workforce and how being a caring
employer providing good work enhances their company reputation and image.
The awards evening will showcase some excellent examples of the good
practice that is taking place.
Businesses from the private and public sector will be attending the evening,
including XPO Logistics, Amalgamated Construction, Distinction Doors, the
NHS Clinical Commissioning Group, DWP Child Support Agency and NPS Barnsley.
There are three Healthy Workplace awards up for grabs on the night: the Best
Health and Well-being Intervention/Initiative Award, the Workplace Health
Champion Award and the Healthiest Barnsley Business Award.

- wathupondearne Latest news in Yorkshire: January 24, 2019 11:28:24 AM Scotland’s former First Minister Alex Salmond has been arrested by police and charged, with a report sent to the procurator fiscal. He is due to appear in court in Edinburgh later today. Sky News are reporting that proceedings are now live under the Contempt of Court Act. Police did not say what Salmond, who served as first minister from 2007 to 2014, is charged with. Two people have made harassment complaints against the SNP grandee but he denies them and took successful legal action against the Scottish government over their investigation. Earlier this month a court said the government’s decisions were “procedurally unfair and… tainted with apparent bias”. At the time Salmond said he is “not guilty of any criminality whatsoever.” The party leader resigned following the loss of the Scottish independence referendum but represented Gordon in the House of Commons from 2015 to 2017.
