Barnsley Sixth Form College student Megan Tinker has been chosen to represent the Great Britain Archery team at the European Field Championships in Slovenia.
The competition involves two days qualifying rounds consisting of shooting unmarked and marked distances followed by head-to-head eliminations where Megan will compete amongst some of the best archers on the international circuit.
Megan, a Physical Education (PE), Film Studies and English AS Level student, said: “I’m looking forward to competing on a new course in a prestigious international event and gaining experience from it. My goal for the whole tournament is to just shoot strong shots and to have a strong mental process throughout.
“College has been really supportive with me and my archery. I’ve been given a grant to help towards my equipment, travel, accommodation and competition costs. Not only this, but I’ve had access to strength and conditioning coaching which has helped me get stronger and fitter so that I become a better athlete.”
Megan is part of the Barnsley Sports Academy within college and this has enabled her to access an Elite Sports Performance Bursary to fund aspects of her competition such as equipment and travel.
