A further ten schools will benefit from lower speed limits, thanks to
the Council committing to the scheme for another year.
This comes as young people travelling to seven more Rotherham schools
are benefiting from extra safety measures – as a further round of
flashing 20mph warning signs have just been installed.
As part of the Council’s commitment to road safety, 18 of the new signs
have already been installed at locations around the borough in the past
year.
The safety measures urge traffic to slow down with “children” warning
triangle signs together with activated flashing amber warning lights
which indicate when the 20 mph speed limit is in operation. Outside of
these periods the speed limit will revert back to normal.
The latest schools to benefit are Ferham Primary, Meadow View Primary,
Kimberworth Primary, Rockingham Primary, Roughwood Primary, St Bede’s
Primary and Thorpe Hesley Primary and Winterhill School.
Councillor Emma Hoddinott, Rotherham Council’s Cabinet Member for Waste,
Roads and Community Safety, said: “These speed reduction signs are to
encourage drivers to reduce their speed when passing schools. I’m
pleased that we will be extending this scheme for another year, so more
schools can benefit. “
Local ward councillor, Cllr Maggi Clark, added: “Keeping our children
safe and healthy is a key priority for the Council so I am delighted to
see the roll out of these signs continuing across the borough.”
