Two people have yesterday (1 April) been handed a jail sentence
following a burglary in Royston, Barnsley.
Robert Hudson, 40, of no fixed abode, was handed a 26-week sentence and
Amber Laing, 21, of no fixed abode, was sentenced to 56 days
imprisonment and following their involvement in the burglary.
In the early hours of Tuesday (31 March), the pair broke into a shop on
Midland Road.
A call from a member of the public alerted police to their presence.
Officers arrived on the scene and the pair were arrested inside the
property.
They were both later charged with burglary.
Sergeant Stephen Newton said: “We are pleased with the sentence Hudson
and Laing have received today. Thanks to the quick thinking of a member
of the public and my colleagues, the pair were stopped in their tracks.
“Burglary can have a lasting impact and it is something that we take
incredibly seriously. I would urge anyone who has any information about
people committing burglaries, or handling stolen goods to please contact
us on 101, or 999 if a crime is in progress.
