Seven arrested in connection with Mexborough shooting

Seven people have been arrested by detectives investigating a reported
shooting in Mexborough over the weekend.

Five men, aged 25, 26, 27, 30, 48 and two women, both 30, were arrested
by officers on Saturday 30 March on suspicion of assault and firearms
offences.

Three of the men, aged 25, 27, 48 have been released under
investigation.

The two other men and two women have been released on bail.

Police were called to Hirst Gate at just before 1am on Saturday 30 March
after reports a man had been shot.

A 30-year-old man was taken to hospital with a suspected shotgun wound.

Shots were also fired at properties on Chaucer Road and Hawthorne
Crescent causing minor damage.

Officers believe these to be a targeted incidents and enquiries are
ongoing to understand the circumstances.

Neighbourhood teams are carrying out door-to-door enquiries in the area
this afternoon (Friday 1 April).
