Detectives, uniformed officers, PCSOs and staff from partner agencies will
be out across Barnsley today tackling the issues that matter most to
residents.
Responding directly to concerns raised by members of the community,
including the use of drugs, antisocial behaviour and off-road bikes,
officers will be working as part of Operation Duxford today (Wednesday 4
July), to clamp down on these particular issues.
District Commander for Barnsley, Chief Superintendent Scott Green, said:
“Teams of detectives have already been carrying out intelligence-led
warrants across the district early this morning, which will no doubt yield
positive results throughout the day.
“We’ll have officers and staff from partner agencies spread across the
district looking at issues including off-road bikes in Royston, antisocial
behaviour in the town centre and rural crime in the more remote areas of
Barnsley.
“Officers will also be carrying out intelligence led stop and searches and
you’ll see our mounted officers in the town centre, along with visible
support from other agencies, too.”
Operation Duxford, carried out in each district across the force, aims to
tackle crime and antisocial behaviour, but a large part of today’s action is
also about protecting vulnerable people and engaging with communities, as
Chief Supt Green continues.
“While a large part of the work we’re doing today will be around enforcement
activity, identifying offenders and bringing them into custody, it’s also
about protecting those most vulnerable within our communities.
“Where possible today, alongside partner agencies we will be offering
support and signposting people to any support services they may need. We are
committed to improving the way we police Barnsley and to ensure both
residents and visitors feel safe here.
“I’d encourage anyone, whether you have concerns or not, to speak to us as
you see us out and about on patrol today. We can tell you more about
Operation Duxford but also about the work we’ve done in improving the area
so far and tackling the issues that matter most to you.”

- wathupondearne Latest news in Yorkshire: January 24, 2019 11:28:24 AM Scotland’s former First Minister Alex Salmond has been arrested by police and charged, with a report sent to the procurator fiscal. He is due to appear in court in Edinburgh later today. Sky News are reporting that proceedings are now live under the Contempt of Court Act. Police did not say what Salmond, who served as first minister from 2007 to 2014, is charged with. Two people have made harassment complaints against the SNP grandee but he denies them and took successful legal action against the Scottish government over their investigation. Earlier this month a court said the government’s decisions were “procedurally unfair and… tainted with apparent bias”. At the time Salmond said he is “not guilty of any criminality whatsoever.” The party leader resigned following the loss of the Scottish independence referendum but represented Gordon in the House of Commons from 2015 to 2017.
