Our Barnsley district has welcomed a new Chief Inspector of Operations,
who will focus on delivering a high level of service from our response
team and officers attending 999 calls.
Andy Berriman joined the team in February and has already set his sights
on South Yorkshire Police (SYP) becoming one of the best performing
forces in the county.
Chief Insp Berriman started his Police career in 1998 with West
Yorkshire Police spending 15 weeks at Police training school in Ryton
upon Dunsmore, Coventry before his first posting to Keighley as a
response officer.
He said: “I attended training school with a number of South Yorkshire
officers, I was delighted to bump into one of them recently, we still
recognised each other instantly after 21 years!”
He worked for WYP for 21 years in a number roles and teams, including,
traffic, neighbourhood policing and response, gaining valuable
experience as a Sergeant and Inspector, before leaving his latest role
as City Commander for Leeds and joining SYP.
Chief Insp Berriman expressed his excitement in meeting the Barnsley
officers, learning about the area and seeing the great work that happens
across the district.
He added: “I’m looking forward to getting to know the officers, sharing
their passion and meeting the communities.”
He also announced how he aims to ensure that his officers respond to 999
calls quickly and provide a quality service to victims of crime.
He said: “I want SYP to be an outstanding force; I want to promote good
work of its officers and share my experience to deliver a high level of
service.
“Staff take a real pride in their work and I am proud to work where
there is an ambition and aspiration to achieve.”
