Glass Works contractor scoops gong for Collaboration of the Year at
National Federation of Builders Awards

Henry Boot Construction – the contractor working on The Glass Works – is
celebrating after winning the award for Collaboration of the Year at the
National Federation of Builders Awards for its work on the refurbishment
of Barnsley Market alongside Barnsley Council.

Henry Boot – the contractor for phase one of the scheme – was commended
for working closely with the council to keep 100 market stalls trading
throughout the redevelopment of the town centre and refurbishment of the
Metropolitan Centre – now part of The Glass Works.

The work started in 2015 with the opening of the temporary yellow market
on May Day Green, before Market Parade opened its doors on the ground
floor of the recently demolished multi-storey car park a year later in
order to keep market traders trading.

Alongside the council, Henry Boot ensured trade was maintained
throughout the duration of the refurbishment of the Metropolitan Centre
– which reopened as part of The Glass Works in November last year,
including on Thursdays for the first time in its history.

The NFB said: “Creativity, excellent risk management and exemplary
collaborative working saw 100 market stalls continue trading
throughout.”

Ryan O’Loughlin, Project Director at Henry Boot, said: “The team have
demonstrated that major projects can be successfully delivered through a
partnering arrangement. Co-location played a major part as issues could
be resolved quickly with openness and trust on a fast-moving project. We
look forward to continuing the partnership throughout 2019.”

Matt Gladstone, Executive Director for Place at Barnsley Council, said:
“We’re delighted that Henry Boot has won this prestigious award – it’s
testament to its staff’s ongoing commitment and hard work through the
first phase of the regeneration of the town centre.

“We worked hard as a council alongside Henry Boot to ensure market
traders could carry on trading through the refurbishment of the
Metropolitan Centre, and the town is now reaping the rewards with our
fantastic new market which opened last year.”
