Barnsley Sixth Form College student Will Ward is preparing to see his
artwork go up for auction after wowing the judging panel of a young artists’
competition.
Will, of Kingstone Grange, Kingstone, was one of 32 people aged between 11
and 18 to have work selected for auction through the Young Artists
Collection competition.
The theme of the competition was Yorkshire and 17-year-old Will submitted a
piece depicting the Chennells pub in Barnsley town centre.
Will said: “My Art and Design teacher Richard Kitson advised me to enter the
competition and I chose the picture of Chennells as I felt that it was my
strongest piece fitting the Yorkshire theme.
“I’m happy that my work got selected for the auction, I didn’t expect it and
my work has never been picked for something like this before.
“I feel this competition is important as it gives young artists an
opportunity to have their work sold at auction and because 40% of the money
raised from the sale of each piece goes towards helping young people.”
The Young Artists Collection competition is organised by IVE, a social
enterprise working to ensure a more creative future for businesses,
teachers, children and young people. The artist gets 60% of the money from
sales and the rest is used to fund IVE’s charitable work.
