Rotherham Central Neighbourhood Team’s Children and Young Persons
Officer (CYPO) is retiring after 19 years of service with South
Yorkshire Police (SYP).
PC Jeannine Waller joined SYP in November 1999, based at the Rossington
Tutor Unit in Doncaster and by the end of her first day, had already
caught and arrested two burglars- she immediately knew it was a job she
would love for many years to come.
Jeannine said: “On my first day, I was out patrolling with my tutor when
we came across two burglars in the act. I pursued them on foot and
arrest them.
“My heart was beating so fast, but the feeling of protecting that
victim’s property was great, knowing I was helping the people of my
community gave me the determination to continue and be the best officer
I could be.”
Jeannine’s passion for making a difference saw her move to Edlington
Police Station after completing her probation and within her first two
years, she had already worked alongside CID, planning investigations and
learned how to complete files and send for forensics.
Jeannine said this set her up for the rest of her career.
She added: “When I moved to Edlington, I loved everything about my team
and the job.
“The opportunities I had enabled me to learn skills that have used
throughout my career and will always be grateful for.”
Jeannine’s next stop was moving to Main Street Station, where she
remained for 17 years, working as a Student Officer Tutor, an officer
within the Sexual Abuse and Child Protection Unit and the Domestic Abuse
Unit.
As a fitness fanatic, Jeannine was assisting in the running of an
amateur boxing club, where the local youths would attend, this
encouraged Jeannine to apply for the CYPO role in 2009 to continue her
work with young people.
A CYPO works in local schools educating students about criminal offences
and how to stay safe. The role also investigates crimes that happen
inside the school and can raise safeguarding concerns where needed.
Her dedication for making a difference has changed the lives of many
people; school pupils, victims and their families and ensured offenders
have been brought to justice.
Jeannine said: “I’ve ended my career in the brilliant team of Rotherham
Central NHP who are hardworking, supportive and brilliant fun to be
with.
“I’ve had a great time, loads of fun and although I’m looking forward to
my retirement, I will miss my friends and colleagues most of all.”
Inspector Jenny Lax said: “Jeannine has been a valuable member of the
team for a number of years and has provided excellent support for
colleagues, partners and schools during this time.
“She will be missed by everyone and we wish her all the best in her
retirement.”
Jeannine will be spending her retirement setting up a family business in
Crete.
