Rotherham’s celestial Festival of Angels project is set to return to the
town and residents are now being urged to get their creative juices flowing.

For the past two years the Rotherham Ethnic Minority Alliance’s Love is
Louder campaign – which is aimed at spreading goodwill and peace – has been
running its Festival of Angels project.

This has involved hundreds of people creating their interpretations of
angels, which are then put on display across the town in shop fronts, art
galleries, schools and even in Rotherham Council’s Riverside head office.

Angels have been chosen as part of this unique art project because of their
common factor within different religions and faiths.

Now individual residents and community groups are being urged to join in the
fun activities by preparing and making creative themed ‘angels’ which will
go on display in business premises later this year.

The campaign encourages people to give an act of kindness in the community,
bringing people together positively over a common theme. It also aims to
bring people together in the community who come from different backgrounds.

Projects Development Manager Emma Sharp, said: “Projects like this are so
important because it helps to build bridges and for people to get to know
each other. It showcases the rich diversity of Rotherham and also displays
how similar we all are.

“Last year’s event was so successful, we’re looking forward to seeing what
the angels in this year’s project will look like.”

Anyone can join in and contribute, from beginners to experienced artists.

The angels in this project can be designed in different formats from
paintings, textiles, crafts or 3D objects made from various kinds of
materials.

Rotherham Council’s Cabinet Member for Cleaner, Greener Communities, Cllr
Sarah Allen, added: “The Festival of Angels project is a fun way to bring
people and communities together around Rotherham and share their creative
ideas.

“The results of last year’s campaign saw some beautiful and different types
of angels created, so we encourage everyone to join in again and make this
year even better!”

Town centre businesses can also join in and get involved with sponsorship of
the displays of angels across the borough.
