A Barnsley man has been jailed for 14 years, six months, after being
found guilty of non-recent child sexual offences.
Jamie Miller, formerly of Carlton Street, Barnsley, appeared at
Sheffield Crown Court last Tuesday (10 March) and was found guilty of
one count of rape and two counts of sexual assault by penetration
against an 13-year-old girl. He was also found guilty of three counts of
sexual assault upon an 30-year-old girl.
The court heard how Miller had sexually abused one of the victims
between 2003 and 2006 and the second victim was sexually abused between
2014 and 2017.
In 2017, one of the victims, who cannot be named for legal reasons, came
forward to report the abuse she had suffered. An investigation was
launched by Barnsley’s Protecting Vulnerable People (PVP) team, which
led to Miller’s arrest in 2018.
DC Belinda Dhami who led the investigation, said: “First of all I want
to commend the bravery of both of Miller’s victims, who after suffering
his horrific abuse had the courage to come forward and report what had
happened to her.
“I am pleased that Miller has been found guilty and the sentence passed
will see him spend a significant amount of time behind bars.”
“While the abuse endured by his victims can never be undone, I hope that
this sentence can act as the first step towards recovery.”
