A 74-year-old man who reported he was threatened with a knife and robbed
last month in Doncaster has been reunited with his wedding ring that was
stolen, after never being apart from it in 43-years of marriage.

On Sunday 29, April, the man was walking along High Street in Mexborough at
around 10.20pm, when he was approached by an unknown man who is reported to
have threatened him with a knife and taken him to the cash point on Main
Street, where it’s believed he was forced to withdraw cash.

The unknown man is then reported to have taken the cash and the elderly
man’s gold wedding ring before leaving the area, heading towards Lower
Dolcliffe Road.

The wedding ring has since been recovered from a local pawn shop and the man
has identified it as his and it is now back in his possession.

A 28-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday, 9 May, on suspicion of robbery.
He has been released under investigation.

Ben Lackenby, 22, of Cedar Avenue, and Kelly Hoult, 32, of Cedar Avenue,
were also arrested on Wednesday, 9 May, and charged yesterday (Thursday, 10
May) with handing stolen goods in connection to the incident.

They have also been charged with robbery in connection to an incident that
is reported to have occurred on Saturday, 5 May.

A 45-year-old woman withdrew £120 from a cash machine and is alleged to have
been assaulted, suffering a broken nose, and the money stolen on Wath Road
in Mexborough at around 3am.

Lackenby and Hoult appeared at Doncaster Magistrates’ Court this morning
(Friday, 11 May) for both charges and have been bailed until their next
appearance at court.
