A Sheffield man has been sent to prison for seven years after being
found guilty of robbery.
Samuel Coggan, 31, was on trial at Sheffield Crown Court last week
charged with robbery and possession of a bladed article.
After a three-day trial, on Friday 28 September the jury found him
guilty of both offences. He was sentenced to seven years in prison. For
the bladed article offence, he was sentenced to one year in prison to
run concurrently to his seven-year term.
The court heard how Coggan, formerly of Collinson Road, Sheffield,
robbed a convenience store in the Ecclesall Road area of the city at
knifepoint in February 2018.
He stole the till and its contents from the store.
Detective Constable Paul Lamb said: “This is a great result for
Sheffield and an individual who used a knife to commit a robbery is now
behind bars.
“Coggan has denied responsibility for this crime throughout our
investigation and I’m pleased a jury convicted him at court last week.
“Robbery is a terrifying offence for victims to experience, especially
if weapons are used to threaten or intimidate. I hope those affected by
this incident earlier this year are reassured by the swift police action
to investigate and apprehend Coggan.”
