Man left critically injured following Barnsley assault

A Sheffield man is starting six and a half years behind bars for
robbery, attempted robbery and possessing an offensive weapon.

Meeshack Menzies, 23, of Braemore Road in Sheffield, was charged
following an incident involving a 16-year-old girl and her 17-year-old
boyfriend on 17 May on Eastern Drive in Sheffield.

The teenage boy was threatened with a knife for valuables before Menzies
turned his attention to the girl. Menzies forcefully knocked the girl to
the floor, demanding that she give him her necklace and bracelet at
knife point before making off.

On Tuesday 17 October, following a trial at Sheffield Crown Court,
Menzies was found guilty of all these crimes and has been sentenced to
serve six and half years in prison.

DC Yvonne Fairbrother, the investigating officer in the case, said:
“Menzies’ victims have suffered a great deal of distress due to his
actions.

“I hope this sentence will go some way to helping them recover from the
ordeal in the knowledge that Menzies will be in custody for a
substantial period.

“Menzies thought he could evade police but that ultimately, offenders
will always be brought to justice.”
