England will host Sweden at Rotherham’s New York Stadium as they step up
their preparations for next summers 2019 FIFA Womens World Cup.
The international takes place at Rotherham Uniteds AESSEAL New York Stadium
on Sunday 11 November (kick-off 1.30pm).
The South Yorkshire venue has hosted a number of womens and development
team fixtures.
Over 10,000 spectators packed the New York Stadium to witness Jill Scott’s
late equaliser which earned the Lionesses a 1-1 draw at home to Belgium in a
Euro 2017 qualifier.
More recently, the home of the Millers was one of six stadia to host the
mens U17 European Championships, including the final in May.
The AESSEAL New York Stadium is also among the nine venues put forward in
The FAs bid to host the Womens EURO 2021.
The fixture follows a clash with Brazil at Notts Countys Meadow Lane ground
on Saturday 6 October [kick-off 12.30] and a match against Australia under
the floodlights at Craven Cottage, the home of Fulham, on Tuesday 9 October
(kick-off 7:00 pm).
Head coach, Phil Neville, said: This is another exciting fixture as part of
our early preparations for next summers World Cup. Sweden are a strong
side, currently sitting eleventh in the world rankings, and we know a number
of their players well.
It was important in selecting these friendlies that we made sure we were
going to be pitting ourselves against tough opposition who will really test
us in the build up to the tournament. I hope our fans will enjoy coming
along to support the Lionesses in what Im sure will be another exciting
game.
Rotherham Councils Cabinet Member for Cleaner, Greener Rotherham, Cllr
Sarah Allen said: Its great news that the New York Stadium will once more
be hosting international football with the Lionesses.
Hosting high-profile womens sporting events such as this encourages
participation from women and girls in sport and physical activity, as well
as wider involvement in cultural and leisure activities in Rotherham.
Early bird tickets are available up to and including 14 October, priced
£7.50 for adults and £1 for children. From 15 October, the price of an adult
ticket goes up to £10, with childrens tickets remaining at £1. Tickets for

The popular comedy extravaganza – which will take place over the course of April – returns to Barnsley town centre for its fourth year, and this year’s show promises to be the most hilarious yet. Headline acts include popular Mock the Week regular Gary Delaney – who brings his show ‘Gagster’s Paradise’ to The Civic on Friday 26 April. Glenn Moore – also a Mock the Week star – will perform at town centre sports bar The Garrison on Wednesday 10 April, while talented comedian Jessica Fostekew will appear at The Old Picture House on Sunday 7 April. Other venues to feature shows include The Electric Theatre, Annie Murray’s Irish Bar, Zinc Bar and Jock’s Cavern. Meanwhile, comedian and Barnsley lad Toby Foster -famous for his BBC Radio Sheffield Breakfast Show and role in award-winning sitcom Phoenix Nights – will host The Last Laugh Comedy Club at The Civic on Saturday 27 April. Other acts scheduled to appear include Carl Hutchinson, Bilal Zafar, Grainne Maguire, Kate Fox, The Noise Next Door, Ben van der Velde, Abigoliah Schumaun, George Egg, Steve Bugeja and Seymour Mace. A Comedy Club 4 Kids will also be held at The Civic on Wednesday 17 April, with The Lamproom Theatre hosting The Odd Couple comedy show over four nights between Tuesday 9 and Saturday April 13. The event will be presented by Love Barnsley Town Centre in association with Barnsley Council and XPO Logistics.
