A Doncaster man who attacked a woman with a baseball bat, leaving her with a
serious head injury, is now serving more than eight years behind bars.

On the evening of Friday 9 February, 25-year-old Jack Thompson entered the
home of a 32-year-old woman in Granville Crescent, Stainforth, wearing a
balaclava and carrying a baseball bat.

Thompson, of Haggs Wood, Stainforth, in company with another man, then went
on to assault the woman, leaving her with a serious head injury requiring
hospital treatment and a number of staples to her head.

He was due to appear before Sheffield Crown Court yesterday (Monday 16 July)
for trial but last Tuesday, 10 July, entered a guilty plea to Section 18
wounding and was sentenced afterwards for a total of eight years and six
months.

Detective Constable Mark Jones, the investigating officer, said: “Thompson,
who the victim knew through a mutual acquaintance, was arrested at the scene
and we immediately began to build our case, gathering extensive forensic
evidence from the scene.

“I’m pleased that Thompson entered a guilty plea last week and the victim
hasn’t been forced to recount what happened to her in court.

“I’d like to praise her for the courage she has shown throughout the
investigative process, as we got the case to court. It was a horrific attack
on an innocent woman who was enjoying her evening, while her young son slept
upstairs. She was left with a serious head injury which required an
extensive recovery period and I’m pleased that she has recovered well and
has seen Thompson jailed for his unforgivable actions.”

A 26-year-old man also arrested in connection to the incident remains
released under investigation. Anyone with information about what happened,
should call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 or 101.
